World Circuit came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by MicroProse. It was one of those early racing simulations that tried to capture the feel of Formula One during a time when 3D graphics were still primitive and gameplay leaned heavily on mechanics over flash.
You control a single-seat race car from a first-person dashboard view, working your way through a championship season across famous tracks like Monaco and Silverstone. The core challenge is managing the car's extremely loose, slide-prone handling with keyboard inputs; you learn to feather the throttle and counter-steer just to stay on the road. Races are won through consistency and memorizing braking points rather than raw speed, with AI opponents that rarely make mistakes. It feels tense and physical, like you're wrestling something alive rather than just driving.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
