Play World Soccer - Winning Eleven DS (K)(Independent) Online

Tapping the screen to thread passes feels weird at first, but soon you're sliding tackles and bending shots like it's second nature—way more responsive than a DS soccer game has any right to be. The AI actually punishes sloppy defending, so you'll sweat those tight 1-0 matches.

Game Overview

World Soccer - Winning Eleven DS is one of those games that makes you forget you're playing on a tiny screen. The controls take a minute to get used to—you'll be fumbling with the stylus at first—but once it clicks, pulling off quick passes or curling a shot into the top corner feels surprisingly smooth for a DS game.

Matches play fast, and the AI actually puts up a decent fight on higher difficulties. I kept losing 1-0 to the computer until I figured out how to properly time through balls. There's a decent selection of teams (though don't expect full licensing) and a season mode that'll keep you busy during commutes. The graphics are obviously simple, but the animations capture that satisfying weight when you nail a long-range goal.

It's not FIFA, but for a portable soccer fix in the DS era, this one holds up better than most.
