Worms: Open Warfare 2 came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, developed by Team17. It was one of the better portable entries in the series during that era, making good use of the dual screens and touch controls. The game fit right in with other quirky, tactical titles on the system, offering something you could pick up for a few minutes or play for hours.
You control a team of worms, taking turns to move and attack across destructible terrain. The main goal is to eliminate the opposing team using an arsenal of ridiculous weapons, from bazookas and grenades to exploding sheep and holy hand grenades. Key mechanics include using the ninja rope to swing across gaps, placing timed explosives for traps, and carefully adjusting your aim to account for wind. Matches are slow and thoughtful, demanding strategy over reflexes, but they can turn chaotic in an instant. It feels satisfying to land a perfect shot and watch the enemy worm fly off the screen.
