Pick your wrestler, tweak their moves, then throw them into chaotic matches—the tag team system finally works, and career mode actually feels like climbing the ranks.
Game Overview
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2009 featuring ECW came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2008, developed by Yuke's and published by THQ. It was one of the more polished wrestling titles on the handheld, arriving at a time when the PSP was still competing strongly for portable gaming attention. The game brought a lot of the console experience into a smaller package, complete with a full roster and several key modes.
You control a WWE or ECW wrestler, customizing their appearance and move set before heading into matches like singles, tag team, or the Hell in a Cell. The main goal is to win matches, climb rankings in career mode, or just cause havoc with friends in multiplayer. Signature mechanics include the struggle submission system, where you rotate the analog nub to apply or escape holds, and the hot tag feature in tag matches, which lets you quickly bring in a fresh partner. The pacing is generally fast, with matches that can turn quickly based on momentum and well timed reversals. It feels satisfying to land a finisher after wearing down your opponent, especially with the responsive controls and smooth animations for the hardware.
