Xixit came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Optik Software, Inc. It was one of those puzzle games that quietly appeared in an era when shareware disks were common, and it didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a solid, focused experience for players who enjoyed methodical tile-matching under pressure.
You control a cursor to swap adjacent tiles on a grid, trying to form matches of three or more identical symbols to clear them before the board fills up. The main objective is to survive as long as possible while the pace gradually increases; matches can be made horizontally or vertically, and clever players use chain reactions to buy extra time. It feels tense but fair, rewarding quick eyes and a calm approach even when the screen gets crowded.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
