Pilot your starfighter through hostile alien worlds, dodging lava geysers and enemy fire while managing your limited shield to survive each challenging stage in Xyphr.
Xyphr was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled a number of titles from that era without a specific developer or publisher credited in most records. It fits right into the mid-90s landscape of shareware and experimental PC games, offering a straightforward but demanding sci-fi challenge.
You pilot a small, agile starfighter across a series of hostile alien worlds. Your main goal is simply to survive each stage, navigating from one end of the hazardous terrain to the other. The core mechanics involve precise dodging of environmental threats like timed lava geysers and homing enemy projectiles, while also managing a very limited shield that depletes quickly on any contact. You must learn to use the landscape for cover, weaving behind rock formations or other obstacles to avoid fire, and sometimes making a desperate sprint across open areas. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and careful route memorization. It feels like a tense, white-knuckle race where every small mistake costs you dearly.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
