Game Overview
Yoshi’s Island DS is one of those games that just feels good to play—bright, bouncy, and packed with little surprises. You’re mostly controlling Yoshi, carting around Baby Mario (and later, other babies) on his back, but the twist is that each baby gives you a different ability. Baby Peach lets you float, Baby Donkey Kong gives you extra strength… it’s weirdly fun figuring out which one works best for each level.
The levels themselves are full of hidden nooks, tricky jumps, and those annoying Shy Guys that never seem to leave you alone. The art style holds up surprisingly well, too—everything’s got that squishy, crayon-drawn look from the SNES original. If you’ve played the first Yoshi’s Island, this one feels like a natural extension, just with more chaos (in a good way).
Honestly, my only gripe is that the screen feels a little cramped on the DS, but you stop noticing after a level or two. It’s a solid platformer with just enough nostalgia and new ideas to keep it interesting.
