At first, I missed the old free-for-all combat, but the way you duck, slash, and time jumps here actually makes fights feel like a scrappy duel instead of button mashing. The pixel art’s gorgeous, especially the way torchlight flickers in dungeons, and that SNES soundtrack? Still gets stuck in my head.
It’s shorter than other Ys games, sure, but there’s something satisfying about how tight it is—no filler, just ruins to explore, bosses that’ll wreck you if you rush in, and Adol being his usual silent, sword-happy self. If you dig action-RPGs with a hint of old-school brawler DNA, this one’s a blast.
