Zeliard came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, developed by Game Studio and published by Sierra On-Line. It was a side-scrolling action RPG from an era when PC games were often built on complex mechanics and required patience to navigate. The game fit right in with other dungeon crawlers of the time, offering a substantial challenge without much hand-holding.

You control Duke Garland, a knight tasked with descending through a multi-level dungeon to defeat the demon lord Zeliard. The game progresses screen by screen, with each new area filled with monsters, traps, and occasional treasure chests. Combat relies on timing your sword slashes or using a bow for ranged attacks, while managing your health and magic points becomes critical in deeper levels. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty ramps up significantly as you advance, demanding careful exploration and resource management. It feels tense and rewarding to push just a little further each time, knowing death sends you back to the start of the current floor.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
