I first came across Zyclunt in the mid-90s, part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection released in 1995 by Phantagram Co., Ltd. It was a time when top-down action games were common, but this one had a gritty, industrial look that stood out without trying too hard. The graphics were functional, the colors muted; it felt like a product of its era, straightforward and unpretentious.
You control a lone warrior navigating maze-like levels, clearing rooms of mechanical enemies with a mix of melee and projectile weapons. The main goal is to survive each stage, find keys to progress, and defeat bosses that guard critical exits. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, where enemies respawn if you leave and return, and a limited inventory that forces careful resource management. The pacing is relentless; enemies swarm quickly, and mistakes are costly. It feels tense and demanding, rewarding precision over recklessness.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
