Game Overview

ZZT came out in 1991, a creation by Tim Sweeney, and it was one of those early MS-DOS games that felt like it was built from the ground up by someone who just loved making things. It ran on practically any machine of the era, and it didn't need fancy graphics to pull you in. You'd load it up, and there it was: a world made of colored text characters, waiting to be explored.

You control a little smiley face character, moving screen by screen through dungeons and towns. Your main goal is to explore these areas, solve puzzles, and fight off enemies like lions and bears, all represented by simple letters and symbols. You use a sword for combat, and you collect keys and treasure to progress. The game can be surprisingly difficult; some puzzles require careful thought, and enemies can overwhelm you if you're not cautious. It feels like piecing together an adventure from the most basic parts of a computer, and that simplicity is what makes it so engaging.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
