Play A-Train Online
Manage your railroad company, lay tracks, set schedules, buy stock, and expand your network in A-Train, a classic business sim from 1985.
A-Train, released by Artdink in 1985 for MS-DOS, was a business simulation game that stood out in an era dominated by arcade shooters and platformers. It tasked players not with blasting aliens or jumping on enemies, but with the meticulous and surprisingly engaging work of running a railroad company. You managed everything from laying track and setting schedules to buying stock and overseeing urban development, all presented through a simple, functional interface typical of the time.
You control the entire railway corporation, making strategic decisions from a top-down business perspective. The main objective is to turn a profit and expand your rail network by connecting cities and transporting both passengers and freight. Key mechanics involve purchasing and placing new trains, carefully plotting their timetables to maximize efficiency, and investing in real estate to spur city growth, which in turn increases ridership. The pacing is deliberate, almost meditative, but the difficulty spikes when poor planning leads to financial ruin, forcing you to watch your company slowly collapse. It feels like a tense, absorbing puzzle where every decision carries real weight.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
