Game Overview

Amazon Trail came out in 1993 for MS-DOS, developed by MECC, the same company that made Oregon Trail. It was part of that wave of educational games that tried to make history and geography feel like something you could actually get lost in, not just read about in a book.

You control a traveler navigating the Amazon River by canoe, managing supplies like food and medicine while trading with villagers and trying to identify local wildlife. The main goal is to travel upriver to find a legendary orchid, which involves careful resource management and timed minigames like fishing and spear-throwing. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, with sudden moments of danger like storms or illness that can end your journey quickly. It feels like a quiet, unpredictable trip where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
