Play American Sign Language Tutor Online

You match pixelated hand shapes to letters, then race to sign words before time runs out—weirdly addictive for a DOS learning game. That blocky animation somehow makes the gestures stick in your head.

Game Overview

Remember those clunky MS-DOS learning games from the '90s? American Sign Language Tutor was one of the good ones—way more engaging than flipping through a textbook. You start off with simple fingerspelling drills, matching hand-shape animations to letters (the pixel art somehow makes it easier to focus on the gestures). Then it throws in mini-games where you race to sign words correctly before time runs out.

What surprised me was how quickly I picked up basic signs—something about the no-frills, repetitive gameplay actually stuck in my brain. The whole thing feels like a time capsule now, right down to the beige-on-blue text menus, but in a cozy way. It won’t make you fluent, but you’ll walk away knowing how to introduce yourself or ask for directions, which is pretty cool for a 30-year-old program.

Perfect if you’ve got a soft spot for retro edutainment or just want to learn ASL without modern apps bombarding you with ads.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
