Antz Racing came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by RFX Interactive. It was one of those tie-in games based on the DreamWorks film, arriving during a time when handheld racers were experimenting with all sorts of ideas, not just straight speed. You pick an ant character and drive through a series of themed courses, trying to outpace the others.
You control your chosen ant in a small vehicle, racing against several opponents on winding, multi-lap tracks. The main goal is simple: finish first. The game uses a top-down perspective, and each ant has unique handling; some slide easily on turns, while others are heavier and can push through obstacles. You also collect power-ups scattered on the track, like speed boosts or hazards to drop behind you. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike on later courses, especially with aggressive AI. It feels like a chaotic, compact arcade experience that fits right in your pocket.
