Game Overview

I picked up Crash Tag Team Racing on the PSP back in 2005, a portable version of the console game by Radical Entertainment and Sierra. It was one of those titles that felt right at home on the system, offering a full kart racing experience you could take anywhere, which wasn't always a given on the handheld at the time.

You control Crash Bandicoot, racing against a cast of familiar characters across themed tracks. The main goal is to win races and collect gems to unlock new areas and events. The standout feature is the "clashing" mechanic; you drive up to another racer, hit a button, and your cars combine into a larger, more powerful vehicle with shared control and stronger weapons. Between races, you explore open hub worlds on foot, hunting for hidden items, completing platforming challenges, and triggering mini-games like target shooting or cannon puzzles. The pacing is brisk, with races that are short but demand quick reactions, especially when managing power-ups and timing your clashes. It feels like a chaotic, slightly unhinged party on wheels, where every race can turn into a demolition derby at a moment's notice.
