Game Overview

Arcana Easy Type came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by HAL Laboratory. It was part of that early wave of SNES games that tried to blend different genres, offering a first-person dungeon crawler with a card-based battle system. It didn't get a huge amount of attention at the time, sitting alongside more prominent RPGs, but it carved out its own little niche.

You control a party of adventurers, exploring a grid-based castle from a first-person perspective. Your main goal is to navigate the maze-like floors, find keys, and defeat the evil that resides at the top. The signature mechanics are the card-based combat, where you play cards representing your party's attacks and spells against the monsters you encounter, and the strategic, screen-by-screen exploration. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is fairly manageable, especially in this "Easy Type" version. It feels like a thoughtful, almost puzzle-like take on dungeon delving.
