Artillery Duel came out for the Atari 2600 in 1983, published by Xonox. It was one of those simple two player games that felt right at home on the system, where split screen competition or turn based strategy made for some of the most memorable afternoons.

You control a cannon at the bottom of your side of the screen, and your goal is to destroy your opponent's cannon across the hilly terrain. You adjust your angle and power for each shot, then factor in the wind speed which can push your projectile off course. The game moves at a thoughtful pace, since each player takes a turn to carefully aim and fire; one well placed hit ends the round. It feels like a tense, mathematical showdown where every decision matters right up until the explosion.
