Austerlitz 1805 came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was one of those detailed historical wargames that felt right at home on a computer of that era, demanding patience and a willingness to learn its systems rather than just offering quick action.
You take command of either the French or Allied forces, directing brigades and artillery across a hex-based map of the famous battlefield. Your main objective is to outmaneuver and break the enemy's morale through tactical positioning and timely assaults. Key mechanics include managing unit fatigue, coordinating combined arms attacks, and reacting to unpredictable weather effects that can bog down your advance. The pacing is deliberate, almost chess-like, and the difficulty is steep if you underestimate the importance of supply lines or terrain. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
