Bank Panic came out for the Sega Master System in 1987, developed and published by Sega. It was one of those arcade-style ports that felt right at home on the system, offering straightforward action without a lot of frills. In an era where platformers and RPGs were gaining ground, this one stuck to its guns, literally, and gave players a tense, reaction-based challenge.
You play as a bank guard stationed in the wild west, and your job is to protect the vault from waves of bandits. The screen shows three doors at once; customers and robbers pop out, and you have to quickly identify the threat and shoot before they fire. Firing at innocent civilians costs you points, and some bandits even take hostages or throw dynamite, forcing you to time your shots carefully. The pace is relentless, with each successful round opening more doors and increasing the speed. It feels like a constant test of your reflexes and nerve, making every session a tightrope walk between caution and speed.
