Play Beauty and the Beast on Snes Online

You alternate between Belle’s careful platforming and the Beast’s brute-force rampages, with that SNES-era Disney charm covering up the jank. Those stained-glass backdrops still pop, though.

Game Overview

Beauty and the Beast on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1994, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of Disney platformers that tried to capture the feel of the films, with bright colors and familiar music. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it fits right in with other licensed titles from that time on the console.

You control either Belle or the Beast, switching between them to use their unique abilities. Belle is more agile, able to jump on enemies and swing from hooks, while the Beast charges through obstacles and fights with his claws. The goal is to progress through levels, rescuing characters like Chip and Mrs. Potts, and eventually face Gaston. You explore screen by screen, collecting rose petals and musical notes while avoiding enemies and environmental hazards. The pacing is deliberate, and some jumps require precise timing, leading to a few frustrating moments. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clumsy, but earnest attempt to bring the movie to life through gameplay.
