I picked up Ben 10: Alien Force - Vilgax Attacks for the Nintendo DS back in 2009, a game published by Outright Games. It was a solid action title for the handheld, fitting right in with the era's library of licensed games that tried to capture the feel of the cartoon. You play as Ben Tennyson, of course, right after the events of the Alien Force series.
You control Ben through side-scrolling levels, fighting off waves of alien robots and villains. The main goal is to stop Vilgax's latest invasion, which involves moving screen by screen, beating up enemies, and occasionally solving simple environmental puzzles. The signature mechanic is transforming into different aliens, each with unique attacks; you might use Swampfire to throw fireballs or become Jetray to fly and shoot lasers. The pacing is fairly quick, and the difficulty can spike with some tougher boss fights that require pattern recognition. It feels like a straightforward, energetic brawler that makes good use of the source material's variety.
