Game Overview

Best of the Best: Championship Karate on SNES is one of those fighting games that sneaks up on you. At first glance, it looks like another generic karate sim, but once you throw a few punches, you realize there’s something special here. The controls are tight—no fancy fireballs, just straight-up kicks, punches, and blocks that actually feel like they have weight behind them.

Matches are quick and brutal. One wrong move and you’re eating a spinning heel kick to the face. The AI doesn’t mess around, either—it’ll punish you for button-mashing, so you’ve gotta time your strikes. Versus mode is where it really shines, though. There’s something hilarious about watching your friend panic when you suddenly land a perfectly timed jumping knee.

It’s not as flashy as Street Fighter, but that’s kind of the point. This is karate stripped down to its basics, and it’s way more fun than it has any right to be. If you dig old-school fighters that reward skill over spectacle, give this one a shot.
