Game Overview

Best of the Best Championship Karate came out in 1992 for MS-DOS, developed by Loriciel. It was one of those early fighting games that tried to capture the feel of arcade martial arts titles on home computers, back when pixel art and simple controls were the norm. You picked it up expecting a straightforward brawler, and it delivered exactly that without a lot of fuss or extra features.

You control a martial artist from a selection of fighters, each with their own moveset, and face opponents one-on-one in a best-of-three match format. The main objective is to deplete your opponent's health bar before they do the same to you, either by landing clean strikes or throwing them out of the ring. Signature mechanics include directional input combinations for special moves, a block button that drains your own energy if overused, and ring-outs that instantly end a round. Matches are fast and demand precise timing; the difficulty is unforgiving, especially against higher-level CPU opponents. It feels like a raw, no-frills test of reflexes and pattern recognition.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
