You control a team of five players plus a goalie, skating up and down the ice trying to score goals. The main objective is simple: outscore your opponent. Signature mechanics include body checking opponents to start a fight (which you then play out in a one-on-one boxing minigame) and a between-periods shooting gallery where you aim at targets to earn extra points. The pacing is quick, with short periods and constant action, though the computer can be tough on higher difficulties. It feels satisfying to land a hard check, win a fight, and then rip a slap shot into the net.
