Game Overview

Blades of Steel came out for MS-DOS in 1990, part of the Classic Games series, and was originally developed by Konami. It landed on computers at a time when sports games were still figuring out how to translate fast-paced action from arcades and consoles to the PC, with its keyboard controls and varying hardware. This was a straightforward port of the NES hockey game, aiming to capture that same feel on a different platform.

You control a five-man hockey team, skating up and down the rink, passing the puck and taking shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within three periods. Signature mechanics include the one-on-one breakaway duel that triggers after certain fouls, and the fighting mini-game that starts when players collide aggressively; winning a fight earns your team a power play. The pacing is quick, with simple controls for shooting and checking, though the difficulty can spike against smarter computer teams. It feels like a bare-knuckled arcade take on hockey, where a well-timed punch is just as important as a well-placed shot.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
