Bonkers came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that wave of platformers that tried to capture a more frantic, cartoon energy, standing alongside a lot of other colorful action games on the system at the time.
You control a cartoon cop named Bonkers, and your job is to dash through stages, punching enemies and tossing bombs to clear each screen. The main goal is to progress through themed worlds, defeating bosses and rescuing your partner, Lucky. Key mechanics include a screen-by-screen progression where you must defeat all enemies to advance, and collecting power-ups like the Hyper Juice that turns you into an invincible wrecking ball. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially in later stages. It feels like trying to control a contained explosion, where every jump and attack needs to be deliberate to avoid the constant chaos.
