I picked up A Bug's Life for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a time when licensed platformers were everywhere. It was developed by Traveller's Tales, the same folks behind a lot of solid movie-to-game adaptations. This one was based on the Pixar film, and it fit right in with the handheld's library of colorful, straightforward adventures.
You control Flik, an ant trying to gather food and rescue the colony's kidnapped kids from the grasshoppers. The game plays out across side-scrolling stages where you jump on platforms, avoid obstacles, and toss berries at enemies. You also collect seeds to unlock new areas and gather food supplies to progress. The pacing is brisk, and some sections can be tricky with precise jumps and enemy patterns. It feels like a compact, focused adventure that captures the movie's small-scale charm.
