Cannon Fodder 2 came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Sensible Software. It was a time when top-down shooters were common, but this one stood out with its grim humor and unforgiving approach to war. You don't play as heroes; you're just managing numbers on a screen, and those numbers die fast.
You control a small squad of soldiers, moving them across varied terrain and directing their fire at enemy troops, vehicles, and installations. The main goal is simply to survive each mission, clearing the area of hostiles while minimizing your own casualties. Key mechanics include managing limited ammunition, using terrain for cover, and watching your soldiers gain experience (and nicknames) if they live long enough. The pacing is tense and deliberate; rushing usually means a quick reset. It feels stark and consequential, a reminder that in war, nobody is special.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
