Captain America and the Avengers on Genesis is one of those classic arcade beat 'em ups that feels both awesome and a little janky at the same time. You pick from Cap, Iron Man, Vision, or Hawkeye—though let’s be real, everyone wants to play as Cap—and punch your way through waves of robots and goons. The voice clips are hilariously over-thetop ("AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!"), and the sprites are chunky in that early '90s way. It’s not the smoothest fighter out there, but there’s something satisfying about throwing your shield and watching it bounce between enemies.

Fair warning: the hit detection can be weird, and some of the later levels get cheap with enemy spam. Still, if you grew up with this or just love retro superhero games, it’s a solid time. Just don’t expect it to hold up like Streets of Rage.
