Captain America and the Avengers on Game Boy is one of those classic beat 'em ups where you pick your favorite Avenger—Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye, or Vision—and punch your way through waves of goons. It’s simple but satisfying, especially when you team up with friends (up to four players, which was rare back then).

The levels mix things up—some are straight-up brawlers, others switch to side-scrolling shooter sections where you’re dodging missiles underwater or blasting spaceships. The bosses are a rogue’s gallery of Marvel villains: Juggernaut just plows through everything, Ultron’s a pain, and Red Skull’s waiting at the end with his usual nonsense. Little touches like Quicksilver dropping health pickups or Wasp helping in the shooter parts make it feel like a proper Avengers adventure.

It’s not the deepest game, but smashing robots with Cap’s shield never gets old.
