Captain America and The Avengers came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Data East. It was a time when comic book games were starting to get more ambitious, and this one tried to capture the feeling of the arcade cabinet right in your living room.

You choose from Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, or Vision to fight through waves of enemies across different stages. The main goal is to stop the Red Skull's latest scheme by clearing screen after screen of his forces. You punch, throw your shield, shoot repulsor beams or arrows, and use character specific special moves that drain a shared energy meter. The game moves quickly, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty can spike pretty hard in later levels. It feels like a chaotic Saturday morning cartoon brought to life, especially with a friend joining in for co-op.
