Play Catacomb II Online

Blast skeletons in tight corridors as a wizard, dodging fireballs from floating skulls while getting hopelessly lost in maze-like catacombs. That pixel art somehow makes spiders cute and terrifying at the same time.

Game Overview

Catacomb II was released in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by id Software. It arrived during a time when dungeon crawlers were gaining traction on personal computers, offering a first-person perspective that felt immersive for the era. The game built on the foundation of its predecessor, refining the visual style and expanding the player's journey into a more elaborate underworld.

You control a wizard navigating a series of interconnected dungeon screens, armed with a fireball spell to fend off skeletons, spiders, and other creatures. The main objective is to explore each room, defeat enemies, and locate keys to unlock doors that lead deeper into the catacombs. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen movement, where each new area loads as you cross its threshold, and combat that relies on timing and positioning to avoid enemy projectiles. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring careful exploration to avoid getting lost in the maze-like layouts, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush into encounters. It feels tense and absorbing, especially when low on health and searching for the next vital key.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
