Play Catacomb 3-D Online
Explore mazelike dungeons, blast monsters with magic, collect treasures, and fight your way to rescue a kidnapped child in Catacomb 3-D.
Catacomb 3-D came out in 1991 for MS-DOS, developed by id Software. It was one of the first games to use a first-person perspective with a hand-drawn player weapon on screen, which felt like a big step forward at the time. The graphics were simple, the colors were bright, and it ran on hardware that was common back then. It didn't try to be realistic, but it was memorable for its style and its place in the evolution of PC games.
You control a wizard named Petton Everhail, moving through a series of dungeon levels viewed from your character's perspective. Your main goal is to fight monsters, find keys, and eventually defeat the final boss to rescue a kidnapped child. You use a basic magic attack, fired from your on-screen hand, to take down skeletons, spiders, and other enemies. The levels are compact and often maze-like, requiring careful exploration; you collect treasure and power-ups along the way. The game is fast and fairly difficult, with limited health and aggressive enemies. It feels immediate and a little rough, but also surprisingly engaging once you get used to its rhythm.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
