Game Overview

Catacomb came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by id Software. It was one of those early PC dungeon crawlers that felt right at home on a floppy disk, a straightforward adventure before games got overly complicated. You knew what you were getting into; it was a dark, grid-based maze filled with monsters, and your job was to get through it.

You control a wizard named Petton Everhail, moving screen by screen through monster-infested corridors. Your main goal is to rescue a child, the princess, from the evil nemesis, Grelminar, by navigating the dungeon's many levels. You attack by firing magic bolts from your hand, a simple but satisfying mechanic, and you collect keys and potions to progress. The pacing is methodical, almost tense, as you never know what's waiting around the next corner, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush. It feels like a raw, unpolished slice of early gaming, where every enemy encounter is a test of patience and aim.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
