Game Overview

Classic NES - Xevious on the GBA is one of those old-school shooters that feels simple at first—until you realize how much is actually going on. You’re piloting the Solvalou (basically a flying saucer with guns), dodging enemy fire while trying to bomb ground targets and shoot down air units at the same time. The controls take a second to click—holding A to drop bombs while tapping B to shoot feels weird initially, but you get used to it.

The levels scroll upward automatically, and the difficulty ramps up fast. Those hidden bonus spots are no joke—some are tucked behind scenery or only appear if you bomb specific patches of ground. I wasted way too many lives early on trying to find them. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, and the chiptune soundtrack is pure nostalgia. Just don’t expect any hand-holding—this is arcade-era design where you either get good or get wrecked.

If you’re into retro shooters, this one’s a solid pick. Just be ready to memorize patterns and die a lot.
