Game Overview

Clay Fighter Tournament Edition came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Interplay. It was a time when fighting games were everywhere, and this one stood out by being completely ridiculous, with characters made of clay instead of the usual martial artists or monsters. It was a follow-up to the original, trying to fix some of the issues players had with the first game.

You control one of several bizarre fighters, like a blob of goo or a living snowman, and your goal is to beat your opponent in one-on-one matches to win the tournament. The signature mechanics include performing special moves with specific joystick motions and button presses, and using a new combo system that lets you chain attacks together more fluidly than before. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially against the computer later on. It feels chaotic and silly, a game that doesn't take itself seriously at all.
