Play Cliffhanger on Snes Online
Punch goons on snowy cliffs as Stallone, then scramble up icy walls—it’s janky but the climbing bits keep things fresh. Knives help when your fists decide to miss.

Cliffhanger came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, published by Sony Imagesoft. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games from the era, trying to capture the feel of the action film on a cartridge. You don't see many games built around climbing mechanics like this one attempted, which made it stand out a bit on the shelf, for better or worse.
You control Sylvester Stallone's character, Gabe Walker, navigating through a series of mountain levels. The main objective is to rescue hostages from a group of terrorists, moving screen by screen through caves, cliff faces, and enemy bases. The signature mechanics are the wall climbing sections, where you must carefully time your jumps between handholds, and the combat, which involves punching, throwing knives, and occasionally using a bow. The pacing is uneven, with tense, slow climbs followed by frantic brawls against groups of enemies. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to translate a specific kind of action movie tension into a playable form.
