Clue: Master Detective came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Leisure Genius. It was a time when computer games often relied on text parsers and simple graphics, and this one expanded the classic whodunit formula onto the home computer. It felt like a natural step up from the board game, fitting right in with other detective and puzzle titles of the era.
You control one of the classic suspects, moving room to room in a large mansion to gather clues and question other characters. The main objective is to solve the murder by deducing the killer, the weapon, and the room, using a process of elimination and careful note-taking. Signature mechanics include making accusations to test your theories, and using secret passageways to quickly navigate the expanded map. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, as you cross off possibilities in your detective notebook. It feels like a quiet battle of wits against the game's hidden logic.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
