Game Overview
Cold Dreams is one of those old-school MS-DOS gems that throws you straight into a weird, hostile alien world—no hand-holding, just you, some creepy creatures, and a lot of locked doors. The shareware version only gives you the first world, but even that’s packed with enough traps and puzzles to keep you busy for a while.
You start off with a basic weapon, but soon realize certain enemies just laugh at it. That’s when you find the other four weapons scattered around, each weirdly specific—like one that melts ice barriers but does nothing against the floating eyeball monsters. Figuring out what works where is half the fun (and frustration).
The robot companion is the real star, though. At first, I just used it as a glorified key-fetcher, but later realized you can program it to scout ahead or even fight on its own. Messing around with its remote control mode opens up hidden paths you’d never find otherwise. There’s a training level, but honestly, I skipped it and learned the hard way—would not recommend.
If you’re into retro games that don’t treat you like an idiot, Cold Dreams is worth digging up. Just don’t expect the aliens to go easy on you.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
