In Comix Zone, you fight your way through comic book panels, battling quirky enemies and solving puzzles to escape the pages and save the day.
Comix Zone is this weirdly cool beat 'em up where you play as a comic artist trapped in his own creation. The first thing that hits you is the art style - it really feels like you're moving through hand-drawn panels, with speech bubbles popping up during fights.
What makes it different is how self-aware it is. You'll punch enemies so hard they crash into panel borders, or tear through the paper itself to trigger special attacks. Your pet rat Roadkill sneaks through gutters to grab items, which is a nice touch when you're getting swarmed.
The difficulty spikes hard though. Some enemies just stunlock you if you're not careful, and health pickups are rare. I remember getting stuck on this one boss who kept summoning minions until I figured out you could rip the background to drop a light fixture on him.
Comix Zone nails that comic book vibe better than most games even try to. It's rough around the edges, but there's nothing else quite like it.
