Companions of Xanth came out in 1993 for MS-DOS, developed by Legend Entertainment. The game is set in Piers Anthony's Xanth universe, a place where magic is real and puns are a way of life.
You control Dug, a character from our world who finds himself in Xanth. Your goal is to gather a group of companions and survive a series of quests to eventually confront a dragon. The gameplay involves navigating screen by screen, interacting with objects and characters through a text parser, and solving puzzles that often hinge on wordplay or inventory use. You can undo actions if you make a mistake, which helps with the sometimes unforgiving logic. It feels like wandering through a clever, unpredictable story where every decision matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
