Play Congo (Proto) Online

Swinging through vines feels great until you eat a spear mid-air—tribesmen don’t care that you’re new here. The ruins might kill you, but you’ll jump back in just to see what weird ambush comes next.

Game Overview

Ever fired up an old Genesis game and immediately felt like you were thrown into the deep end? Congo (Proto) does exactly that—no tutorials, no hand-holding, just you and a jungle that wants you dead. The first thing you’ll notice is how fast everything moves. One second you’re swinging over pits, the next you’re dodging spears from tribesmen who definitely didn’t get the memo that you’re the protagonist.

It’s rough around the edges (it is a prototype, after all), but there’s something weirdly addictive about its janky charm. The platforming feels like a mix of Pitfall! and a fever dream—sometimes you’ll land a jump perfectly, other times you’ll swear the vines betrayed you. And those ruins? Half the time I wasn’t sure if I was solving a puzzle or just stumbling into the next ambush.

If you’re into gaming archaeology or just love the raw energy of early ‘90s platformers, this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect it to play fair.
