Play Conqueror Online

Command a squad of clunky tanks in real-time, switching between them mid-battle—the controls feel heavy until you realize that’s the charm. Best with a friend: one drives, the other aims, and you’ll bicker when they swing the turret into a wall.

Game Overview

Conqueror is one of those weird, ambitious MS-DOS gems that shouldn’t work but somehow does. You’ve got this little squad of tanks, and the game lets you jump between controlling any of them on the fly while the AI handles the rest. At first, I kept fumbling with the controls—tanks don’t turn on a dime, and lining up shots feels clunky until you realize that’s the point. It’s all weighty and deliberate, like you’re actually wrestling with a joystick to steer a hunk of metal.

The two-player mode is where it really shines, though. One person drives, the other mans the turret, and suddenly you’re yelling at your friend because they swung the barrel the wrong way while you were reversing. Between missions, you scavenge cash from wrecked enemies to buy reinforcements, which adds this tense risk-reward layer—do you splurge on a heavy tank now or save up for repairs later?

It’s janky in that classic ‘90s way, but there’s nothing else quite like it. You either bounce off hard or end up obsessed.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
