Contraption Zack came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Tom Snyder Productions. It was one of those early 90s platformers that felt right at home on a PC, with its simple graphics and straightforward, screen-by-screen challenges that didn't try to be more than they were.
You control Zack, a factory worker tasked with repairing broken machines across multiple hazardous levels. The main goal is to navigate each room, avoid obstacles like conveyor belts and spinning blades, and activate the correct switches to get the machinery running again. The gameplay involves careful jumping, precise timing, and a lot of trial and error as you figure out the sequence of actions needed to progress. The difficulty is consistently unforgiving, with instant death traps forcing you to memorize patterns and retry frequently. Playing it feels like solving a frantic, mechanical puzzle under constant pressure.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
