Cool World came out on the Game Boy in 1993, published by Ocean Software. It was a time when licensed games based on movies were common, and this one tried to capture the strange, hybrid look of the film, translating its animated chaos into the handheld's limited palette and screen.

You control Frank Harris, a detective pulled into a cartoon dimension. The main goal is to navigate through side-scrolling levels, shooting bizarre living doodles with a pistol to clear a path. The game uses a screen-by-screen exploration structure, often requiring you to find specific items or hidden exits to progress, some of which cost coins you collect from defeated enemies. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving due to some awkward platforming and enemy placement. Playing it feels like wrestling with a rough sketch that's constantly trying to erase itself.
