Game Overview

Cool World Disk1 came out on the Amiga in 1992, published by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of licensed games trying to capture a film's energy, in this case the hybrid live-action and animated movie. On the Amiga, it fit right in with other platformers and action titles that relied on colorful graphics and straightforward, level-based challenges.

You control Frank Harris, a detective drawn into the animated Cool World. The goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend, Holli Would, by fighting through 16 levels across four distinct worlds. The gameplay is run-and-gun; you move screen by screen, shooting a variety of cartoonish enemies with your pistol while collecting coins for extra lives. Some stages shift into a forced-scrolling mode, adding urgency as you dodge obstacles and keep firing. The difficulty is consistent, sometimes unforgiving with enemy placement, but the controls are responsive. It feels like a brisk, sometimes chaotic dash through a distorted cartoon universe.
