Play Cool World on Snes Online

You play as Jack, stretching your weird punch attack to smack doodles while dodging the Popper Police—sometimes you’ll suck enemies into a pen or drive through chaotic cartoon streets. It’s bizarre, kinda janky, but in a way that sticks with you.

Game Overview

Cool World came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, published by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games from the era, a time when developers tried to capture the feel of a film, often with mixed results. The game was based on the Ralph Bakshi animated film, and it tried to bring that strange, hybrid live-action and cartoon world to the 16-bit console.

You control Jack Deebs, a cartoonist pulled into his own creation. The main goal is to fight your way through various stages to rescue your creation, Holli Would. Your primary attack is a strange, stretchy punch that you use to defeat the doodle enemies. You can also suck certain foes into a pen to temporarily remove them from the screen, and some levels put you behind the wheel for driving sections through chaotic, obstacle-filled streets. The pacing is uneven, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, but the sheer oddness of the mechanics makes it memorable. It feels like a strange, slightly broken dream you can't quite shake.
