Play Crime Fighter Online
You creep through pixel alleys, timing punches as muggers lunge at you—mess up and that chunky MS-DOS death sound haunts your next attempt.

I first played Crime Fighter back in the late 80s, a 1988 release from MS-DOS Classic Games by Peter Steffen. It was one of those side-scrolling brawlers that felt right at home on a floppy disk, simple in concept but tough to master. You didn't get elaborate stories or cinematic cutscenes back then; you got a character, some streets, and a lot of enemies to clear out.
You control a lone vigilante moving screen by screen through a city at night. Your main objective is to clean up the streets by defeating waves of thugs, from basic muggers to more aggressive knife-wielding attackers. The combat relies on timing your punches and jumps; mistime a swing and you take a hit, with health being scarce. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty spikes quickly, demanding precise inputs to survive more than a few screens. It feels raw and immediate, like every decision matters in the moment.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
