Play Cross Country Racing Online
Your tiny car fishtails through dirt tracks, bouncing off rocks and barely making turns—until suddenly you’re hooked on shaving seconds off your messy, chaotic lap times.

Cross Country Racing came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by HotGen and published by Infogrames. It was one of many racing titles on the system, offering a straightforward take on off-road competition without much fanfare. The game fit right into that era of portable gaming, where simple concepts and quick sessions were the norm.
You control a small, top-down vehicle across a series of dirt and mud tracks, trying to finish each race in the shortest time possible. The main objective is to complete laps while avoiding obstacles like rocks, puddles, and other racers; one key mechanic involves managing your car's grip as it slides unpredictably on loose surfaces. Another is timing your acceleration out of corners to maintain momentum, since the handling feels loose and every mistake costs precious seconds. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can spike sharply on later courses, especially when you clip a barrier and spin out. It feels frantic and a little unforgiving, but there's a definite satisfaction in finally nailing a clean run.
